A brief overview of Sixense's 30 year history

Sixense - A 3 decade journey

SolData was originally founded as a specialist provider of geotechnical and structural monitoring services, developing its reputation in the late 1990s and early 2000s through the delivery of high‑quality instrumentation for major infrastructure and urban construction projects.

From the outset, the company focused on the design, installation, and management of geotechnical and structural instrumentation systems, enabling clients to control risk through accurate, real‑time data during construction and operation.

This early emphasis on automated monitoring and robust sensor technologies positioned SolData as a trusted partner on complex projects where safety and performance were critical.

As infrastructure projects grew in scale and complexity, SolData expanded both geographically and technically, building a strong international footprint and broadening its monitoring capabilities. The company invested heavily in advanced instrumentation such automated total stations and structural sensors alongside integrated data management platforms that allowed clients to interpret large volumes of monitoring data efficiently.

By deploying these solutions on landmark projects worldwide, SolData strengthened its standing as a market leader in instrumentation‑led risk mitigation and continuous monitoring.

A significant milestone in SolData’s growth occurred in 2016 when the company became part of the SIXENSE Group, aligning its core instrumentation and monitoring expertise with a wider portfolio of digital and engineering services.

The evolution to Sixense was driven by the desire to unite multiple areas of technical excellence under a single, global brand. By merging the specialist skills of other ‘sister’ companies in geotechnics, structural health monitoring, digital platforms, mapping and engineering consultancy, Sixense emerged as a more comprehensive partner for infrastructure owners and operators. This evolution has allowed Sixense to move beyond traditional monitoring, and towards providing a more holistic risk management and asset performance service.

Becoming Sixense also reflected a stronger emphasis on digital innovation. Building on Soldata’s field-proven instrumentation services, Sixense invested heavily in data analytics, automation, and real-time monitoring. This shift enabled clients to gain deeper insights from their data, improve decision-making, and respond proactively to risks, rather than relying solely on periodic measurements or reactive interventions.

This integration accelerated the company’s development of smart monitoring systems, combining high‑quality instrumentation with advanced data analytics and remote monitoring technologies.

Another key driver of the transformation was the increasing importance of sustainability and resilience. At Sixense we have aligned our services more closely with global challenges such as climate change, urbanization, and aging infrastructure. We have reinforced our commitment to helping clients protect people, assets, and the environment through smarter design, monitoring, and long-term asset management strategies.

Today, Sixense represents the natural evolution of Soldata—retaining the technical rigor, reliability, and field expertise that defined its origins, while expanding its capabilities and global reach.

This is a transition that reflects not just a change in name, but a shift in ambition: from specialist monitoring services to an integrated and holistic approach that supports safer, more resilient, and more sustainable infrastructure worldwide.
