The Meeting Place of Champions

The Yas Marina Circuit is the venue for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The circuit is situated on Yas Island, about 30 minutes from the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi. Yas Marina is the second Formula 1 track in the Middle East, after Bahrain.

Launched in 2009 Yas Marina Circuit continues to be one of the UAE most lively sports venues. The ultramodern track not only offers captivating racing spectacle but is also used year-round to offer professional and casual motorsport events and experiences.

Following water infiltration issues in the pedestrian tunnels under the race track, repairs and waterproofing were required. In order to efficiently carry out the repair works, the water table needs to be lowered, dewatering was needed.

Sixense Centaur solution

Dewatering-induced ground settlement is a common issue around construction sites, adjacent structures are often also affected, while even more rigid layers like asphalt are known to locally settle, resulting in potholes, a serious and unacceptable risk on a high-speed racetrack!

Sixense was contracted to install, commission, perform and report on the monitoring of the surface settlement adjacent to Tunnel 8 in order to mitigate the risk of settlement occurring on-site as a result of dewatering activities.

Besides the installation of “classic” optical prisms on the structures and walls around the racetrack, Sixense added value on this project was the configuration of reflectorless points to follow the surface settlements of the track itself !

Sixense Centaur solution measures the ground settlement in areas without installing prisms. The Centaur system is often chosen to record the vertical displacement of virtual settlement points automatically, and without the requirement of installing anything on the ground, nor sending our staff in potentially unsafe areas.
